The Attic 2015 Recycling Project

The Attic will be taking part in a recycling project from September 2015.  The aim of the project is to reduce the amount of

general waste within the school by recycling and reusing.  This will be achieved with the help of our staff and young people.

We will be recycling printer toner cartridges, batteries, school waste (paper, plastic, metal and glass).  We will be looking to increase our compost heap at our new Carlton Colville Site which will help when planting seeds to grow plants, vegetables and fruit.  Our young people with be able to work towards achieving a Unit Award in Recycling during this project while gaining further knowledge about the impact on the environment.  The pupils will also be taking part in upcycling some old furniture which the school could sell on as this will help towards buying more materials to continue with the upcycling.

Free School Meals

Parents claiming some benefits can also claim free school meals for any of their children who are registered at our school. School meals are a good way to make sure that your child eats well at lunchtime so that they can concentrate and thus participate more during lessons.

Even if you don't want your children to have the meals, claiming them helps the school provide more educational opportunities for your child. The more eligible parents who claim meals, the more funding the school receives which is then spent on further enriching your child’s education at school.

Your child might be eligible to receive free school meals if you get any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

Children who get any of the above benefits in their own right (ie they get benefits payments directly, instead of through a parent or guardian) can also get free school meals.

If you believe the above applies to you, then please go online at (http://www.suffolk.gov.uk/children-families-and-learning/schools/school-meals-transport-and-travel/apply-for-free-school-meals/) or download application, complete and return to us.
